US-1 Congestion Management Study from SE Lillian Court to SW Joan Jefferson Way
The Martin Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is conducting a transportation study of US-1 from Joan Jefferson Way to SE Lillian Court. The purpose of the study is to find innovative ways to improve traffic and safety along US-1 without traditional roadway widening.
This is the second such study of US-1. The first study was completed in 2024 and analyzed US-1 from Joan Jefferson Way, north to the Martin-St. Lucie County Line. Both study areas were selected because traditional roadway widening is not feasible, while surrounding areas continue to experience grow in employment and housing.
An important component is public outreach effort to gather first-hand accounts from people who travel along US-1 and learn about their experiences and concerns. Public feedback will be combined with transportation data including, peak congestion periods, vehicle speeds, crash data and access issues that may discourage people in walking and biking to nearby businesses and residential areas.
The study seeks to:
• Improve facilities for non-motorized vehicles to increase this use
• Improve safety for all users (automobile, pedestrian, and bicycle).
• Identify areas and intersections for improvements.
• Find ways to increase connectivity (i.e. Joint access between uses)
We want to hear from you. Please follow this link to take our survey.
Your input is important to the success of this study. Please take a few minutes to share your experiences and concerns about traveling along US-1.
